Paging Mr Coleman: Deliver SAT opportunity today

Akil Bello, over at Bell Curves, has a terrific examination of what the upcoming changes to the SAT might mean: College Board Delivering Opportunity: Winners and Losers

I’m all for widening access to authentic test prep materials and good test prep – that’s why I have this blog chock full of good strategies and tips. And these folks do as well: Bell Curves, PWN the SAT, The Critical Reader, and Erik the Red.

And I also keep room in my schedule for low income students that can’t afford my rates.

So I’m a fan of what David Coleman, the president of the College Board, is *saying*:

“The real news today is not just the redesigned SAT but the College Board’s renewed commitment to delivering opportunity.”

However, I’d just like to point out that he could do this NOW.

Instead of giving reports like this,

Mr. Coleman could clearly identify exactly what topics are tested most frequently.

He could create reports so students could see EXACTLY which topics they need to study

and he could create customized reports that focus students on WHAT they missed and WHY they missed it.

So come on over to our side Mr. Coleman! Start using that goldmine of data you are sitting on to help students target their weaknesses and learn more skills.

And, while you are at it, will you please let people know that y’all have explanations available online FOR FREE for all the questions in the Blue Book. Maybe like this?
